Picked up a car in the North part of the State. Utah. On the way home we stopped to give my boy a chance to shoot at a prairedog. Well he found out you can't just walk up 50 ft from them and shoot them. The closest shot was more like 50 yds. He missed every time. So did I for that matter with the .22. Got close enough to make them duck.

So then it was time for a scope and heavy fire power. I found out my scope helped see the critters but after a shot or two my scope moved. But I was lucky enough to get one dog. (Should call them prarie rats and the tree huggers might not want to save the things so bad) It was a head shot at 100+ yds. It was a luck shot. Next time I'll have the scope loctited better. But a first kill none the less. Took the lower half of his head off.

Anyone have a prariedog recipe?

Sounds like you need to sight in your equipment.  Hopefully you don't do any real hunting like this.  What a disgrace.

1cheapshot,

Go for it.

So where were you hunting at? North, South, or the West. I would like to find a place to go.

Seems to be several UT residents here on the board.

I've got 3 souls on my NDM, and a picture of each.

First blood was in 1999 taken at 250yds with 165gr Hornady "Custom"

Second was in 2000 on this Cougar at a range of about 30 yards (maybe) with Winchester 168gr Silvertips

The last time I went out was in 2003, and that year I took this Mule Deer at 167yds with Hornady 168gr AMAX.  This was the first one that ever even took a step after the shot (he made it about 40 yards or so).

This year I'm going after white tail with my CA Tiger if I do any rifle hunting at all.  If I'm successful, that will be this rifle's first blood.

Never hunt without a camera!

Those dragunov and other versions of them are pretty decent rifles for the $$. I just never got enough $$ for one.

Looks like you put yours to good use.

I still haven't had time to hit the range to site mine in again.

please tell me where you can shoot Prarie Dogs in Utah.  I have never seen a Prarie dog around here even out in the desert.  Can you give me a place to go?
