I've already converted a 7.62 Saiga and I want to do one in .223 for my girlfriend. My main sumbling block is finding a .223 FCG. Does the .223 AKs use the same FCG as a 7.62 AK?

Yes, they're the same FCG.

I think your main stumbling block will be mags

unless you buy the new 30 round saiga mags for boo-cou bucks

Thanks for the response guys. I'll be going with the new Saiga 30 rounders. I know I can convert an AK-74 mag, but after buying the follower and everything it'll come close to the $30 price tag. I know CDNN is selling Saiga hicaps now, but they don't have a price listed yet. Like I said this is for my girlfriend who'll be doing occasional shooting so I don't need to buy a bunch of mags.

If you wanted 50 rounders (or 30) you could convert Galil mags.  One guys used them in his conversion, but it involves trimming the mag itself.
