Let me start by saying I am a complete AK noob and have been looking to buy my first. I found a few WASR's but then today I run across a used Arsenal chambered in 7.62x39. Is there a way of identifying what model or year it is? It has a stamp of 08 in the lower corner, also it has wood furniture and instead of a slant brake or a 74 style it has two pins holding on a completely round piece that is slightly larger than the barrel. It looks to be unused there are no scratches on the outside except for a mark where the dust cover moves, so I was wondering if it has been refinished or something. They guy took it apart and it is spotless inside, the piston shows no wear and the whole gun seems very clean. I looked down the barrel and it shines like a mirror. The rifling is there but it is not as crisp as what I am used to with other platforms, is this normal of chrome lined Ak's? Or am I getting screwed? The price is $600 OTD which also seems a little low, any help is much appreciated.

Edit : receiver was stamped Legion if it makes any difference

Start with perusing for a match on Arsenal's website.  Last I looked, they had photos of all their models, incl. one's that they stopped making, or only made in very limited volume.

It's probably one of the CA compliant versions, would explain the pinned(likely) thread protector instead of having a muzzle device.

So I could just remove it and install a brake right?

Yeah, a pinned thread protector can be removed.

Alright thanks, also is it normal for AK's rifling to be shallower than say an AR's?

Not that I have noticed, but I've never really studied the land and grooves to be honest.

another thread popped up over this weekend with this same question. The rifling is not as deep on the AKs as they are in the ARs, so it's normal.
