[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Bolt hold open

I finished my conversion kinda. It's all done but the spring for the bolt hold open found a hiding spot in the shop. I'll be I'm the only one that ever did that one. LOL I ordered a couple more so they will be here probably next week.

The question is do I really need it??? Is it safe to operate the rifle without the bolt hold open? I can't see any reason I can't shoot it with out it. Is there a reason not to?

I always toss the BHO device. The AK wasn't designed around one.

The BHO is not necessary, but I like it. But to each his own.

You need to check to see if your FCG is designed for the BHO. If it is, you may need to shim the hammer over to compensate.

Well there was a BHO on the rifle. During the conversion the spring got lost.. I have one on the way but was wondering if it is ok to use without it for a while. There was a stamped piece of metal that was on the same pin as the hammer. It "seems" to work "normaly" without it on the bench. I haven't shot it yet though.

it will work fine. I recommend you go to youtube and look for videos on how to reinstall one. This will give you a better idea of the mechanics involved.

I run mine without it. No issues... if you want the feature of a BHO grab an enhanced safety lever of some kind like the Krebs, works as a BHO but has some ergonomic improvements for the AK and is much, much easier to install and take down.

Saiga's imported in the sporter configuration. If you don't have one of these, the BHO featuree will not apply.
