Have a question on the Arsenal SGL 34-61, which is a NY compliant AK 74.

Does anyone know if the barrel is threaded under what appears to be a muzzle nut of some sort on it?

I am asking because muzzle brakes are legal in NY, as long as they are permanently attached, and i would like to put the 74 brake on.

I owned one many years ago.  Came from the retailer new with a dent in the side - they sold it to me for like $250.  Probably the best deal for me, ever!

I think threads are under a smooth barrel nut.  I seem to remember looking at it "down the barrel" view and noticing that.  A gunsmith could probably remove the finish and find the pins and spot welds.

Not something to do yourself, as once those threads are exposed in NY.....not good

I don't think once exposed, those threads would be pretty and may need to be re-threaded, but you will need to perm attach a brake anyway and they wont show.

To verify, take the diameter measurement.  Threads should be 24mm I think.  It should be much more with the nut, or 22-23mm ground down.

Micrometer is key here.  Good luck!

Henderson Defense will make the SGL31 ban compliant by welding the brake on.  Getting the cleaning rod off can become a bit of a pain though.

NY legal with East German mag.
