Hey guys, I'm new to the Saiga conversion process and don't want to have to order multiple times for parts. So far I have:

bulgy FSB
muzzle break
gas block
trigger guard and selector retainer
pistol grip w/nut&screw
lower hand guard and retainer
butt stock

What else do I need? Trigger, hammer, disconnector, FCG retainer, and gas tube with upper hand guard?

I may wind up leaving the factory hand guard anyway. Thanks for any help.

you pretty much have it.  the last Saiga I bought had a 20" cleaning rod, so you may want to throw that in there too. Also, the new saigas bo longer are pinned, so you may look for some of those, or buy cheap drill bits to cut up and use as pins. So far mine has worked just fine w/o the bullet guide, but I still plan on installing one for no other reason than it was designed with one. They are relatively cheap and I suggest the kit from Dinzag, has everything you need, minus the the tool to turn the thread tap. Lastly, think of what you're going to refinish the rifle with. Duracoat has a great product I like to pimp called durabake. It's aerosol and bakes in your oven. Excellent finish. Matte black matches the Russian finish real well.

Look forward to seeing pics!

G2 trigger group also for other question up there

You mean the FSB is not pinned, but dimpled? Or something else?

yes, dimpled. It's a new process that actually dimples into the barrel too and holds the FS and GB in place, really a pita to remove, usually involves my drill press and dremel. You will have 1 pin in the GB for the HG though. You might be able to push it through and have enough to make 1 more pin out of it.

Anybody know the spec on the pins? I'm sure I could source them locally. Thanks man, I appreciate the reassurance that I'm on the right track.

3mm from another thread, and I put my micrometer on some I have and they came out right at 3.

install a bullet guide.  Mine had a flat trunion and it would not cycle rounds correctly without it.  I heard that if you have one with a round trunion you might get lucky and not need one but it was only around $20 with the the screw and tap from CSS.  Just be careful when your tapping the hole because my tap kept feeling like it was going to snap off in the hole when I was tapping it out

my flat trunnion 5.45 Saiga cycles just fine w/o, that's why I've been in no rush to install the guide. I have it sitting there, I just need to tap the trunnion and install.

Didn't have any jams with my 5.45 flat trunnion before conversion, but have had some on the last round after conversion.  May have to add bullet guide after all.  Reused the trigger guard and forced it under the mag catch, had to compress it like a spring to get it to fit, wonder if it pushing on the mag catch makes a difference?

would have to see it to be able to tell. I completely removed the mag catch a re-revit in an original style when I convert.

If you want to save some money and the hassle of converting the FSB and hangaurds try the  IZ 340 from Atlantic.

Tried the Saiga at the range again, still had problems on the last round with Russian plum mags, but for some strange reason a Promag 30rd mag I got free works great.
Maybe it is closer to the Siaga mag.
