Could anyone provide me with the barrel diameter under the gas block for a saiga with a 7.62x39 barrel?

don't know specifics b/c I no longer have any calipers, but it's the same as a Bulgy 74.

So if I was able to find a Bulgy front sight/gas block it would fit on the barrel just fine?

It should, I had a bulgy 74 FSB installed on my old Saiga 7.62 before I sold it, fit like a glove.

eta, meaning the FSB. I didn't change my gas block out so I can't comment.

yes. I used bulgy parts on both of these

both fsb and gb on this one

gb only on this one, had the fs already

oops, took this pic before I changed it. Will take another pic soon.

Thanks for the info. K-var seems to have the whole front end in stock so that looks like the way I will have to go. I could then sell the barrel and front sight on the EE.

try Apex. K-var stuff is virgin and needs to be drilled. If Apex doesn't list it, try calling them, they may have some laying around.

I will give Apex a call. What needs to be drilled on the virgin ones? I know it says the parts are just pressed on, so if the only thing I have to drill and pin is the hole for the mounting pin, I will be fine, but if I have to drill the gas port and anything else it might be over my head.

Also, is the plunger pin the pin used to keep the muzzle device aligned?

yes, that is what the plunger pin is. As for virgin, I mean that you will have to drill the holes for the mounting pins. I have tried several times myself with a hand drill and no luck. I'm guessing you need higher speeds and a press to get it. That's why I buy surplus parts from a rifle, that way I don't have to drill the holes that I know I can't drill
The metal is pretty hard on these parts.

Ok cool. I have a drill press which should work but if not, I know a machinist who milled and reamed the barrel pin holes for my CETME and HK91 builds for some beer money.

I will do some research about drilling it in the proper place.
