I am new to these forums, so please don't feel the need to flame me for my n00b like questions ans so forth.

I need to find out what the WASR2's major problems are. I know that they have a history of being...crap. But, for $290, it is probably worth it.

If you have any other recommendations for another type/make od AK-74 for around the same price range ($250-$350), then do not hesitate to mention it.

BTW, I have shot this gun at the range, and I was very pleased with it (but I'm a n00b...). ANd when I learned that it was only $289 on AIM surplus, I took great interest.

Thanks

Who knows man....

With wasr's, you take your chances.  I know people who have really really nice ones.  Then I know some people who have put more effort into them, then they should have.  I hope you got a 'good' one.

I would never buy a WASR without being able to inspect it in person. You can eliminate canted sights and find one with the least amount of mag wobble simply by looking at it.

Hmmm...could anyone recommend another AK-74 that I could get for around the same price?

Thanks

I got a wasr-2 from AIM.  I just had a chance to shoot it for the first time today.  Tons of problems...fail to eject, fail to feed, double feed.  Not all that happy with it right now.  The FSB is slightly canted too, but not enough that I couldn't sight it in without running out of windage adjustment.  Spending a little more for something better will save you a lot of hassle.  You're just taking a chance with these guns.

All these problems are common. They are all listed on linx310's site  If you can't buy from a local source that will exchange the firearm if it doesn't work then is it really worth the low price if you have to keep sending it back to Century to get it fixed?  Will Century pay for the shipping?  If not that will add to your final cost of getting a rifle that works.

AF has the Tantal's but they are out of the price range you want to spend.

Listen to other's that mention the WASR rifles having problems and if you get one just expect to have issues.  If you don't then you lucked out.

Ok, thanks guys. I knew that I was going to take a chance if I got this, so I guess I'll broaden(sp?) my price range a little to get a rifle that works.

Thanks

WASR RIFLES WORK.Just need to check them out good!I had a choice between 2 both wasr2's 06 production date. They were straight handguard wood is soft.My neighbor  bought the one I didn't take both fuctioned fine.Had to clean them real good lots of cosmoline.Mags fit tight on ploy steel alittle wobble. If you want to spend the extra $200 on the other rifles go ahead you will love it.But $200 buys alot of ammo. If you have any problems with a wasr century will fix it!It's your choice.I've never had aproblem with century's ak rifles fal another story.

you know what I didn't think of? I might sound stupid, but how many other places sell the WASR2 besides AIM Surplus? There is a Cabela's and many other gun shops in my area. Is there any way that they could be found there? I don't know much about Century, so I don't know their policies...

There are dozens of online places that sell WASR type rifles. I think your best bet would be to go to a local gun show and get one there, that way you can look for the best specimen and the price will be very similar.

my WASR2 works fine and hasn't had a problem. I ordered from AIM. Front sight was slightly canted but still hit on target. If you order from AIM, I think you can request that they handpick for an extra $10
