They fly out if you don't use good Hi-vel ammo or if the eccentric screw on the underside of the bolt is loose and out of position. In position, and slightly peened to ensure it stays in place, the screw holds the spring and plunger in tension against the extractor claw. Standard .22 ammo won't drive the bolt back enough for the extractor to grab the rim properly, and then you get lots of brass jamming all around under the dust cover, leading to FTF and FTE. Once I even blew my extractor right out of the gun. Only the fact that I was firing in an indoor range prevented me from losing all the parts. I put it all back together after cleaning it all out, went to Winchester Super-X and haven't had a problem since. Also, it helps to occasionally get some CLP and a pipe cleaner in the extractor hole, and clean it all out. Just a drop of lube in the extractor is needed. I use Grease Lightning by Break-Free. The gun fires GREAT! Only problem: where to get MORE mags? Only dedicated WASR 22 mags fit.
