I was reading a site on how to install a new front sight base. They stated that if you add a new one that you MUST ground off the bayo lug. Looking at a lot of pictures on here I see many AK's with bayonets. What's the deal?

| sounds to me like they are living in the past. although state laws may vary and i make a habit of not knowing any outside of NC, the AWB is gone now and having evil features on your gun is perfectly legal. there is no federal law stating you can't have bayo lugs, thats for sure. |
| Ok. I guess the website must have been a little outdated. Anyone ever added a new site block? I'm thinking of finding a thread one so I can add a slant break. Are there any US dealers that make one so I don't have to chnage out other parts to make it 10 part compliance. |

I've got an SAR-1. Just before the ban expired I bought the slant brake, detent pin and spring and front site base with intact bayo lug. About a month after the ban expired I sent the rifle and new parts to another arfkommer who does 'smithing in his spare time and he installed all the pieces. There is no Colorado state law forbidding this, so my rifle is perfectly legal in the state of Colo. I don't know what your state laws are like, but there is currently no Federal law prohibiting the addition of a bayonet lug or threaded muzzle device. And for an AK you only need 5 US made items. On my SAR-1 they were:
To add a threaded muzzle device it must be US made or change out one more approved part to US made. It's just easier, generally, to get a US made muzzle device. I got my parts from KVar. |
