Anybody know how to remove the slant break from a romy without screwing it up? I know it's left handed threads but i don't want to break or gouge the crap out of anything in the process.

TIA, Dave

It should only be hand tight.  Pushthe retainer pin in with one hand and turn the brake with the other

On mine, it's very simple.  Right above the break you will see a little pin sticking out and holding the break steady.  Just push that down with a screwdriver, then twist the break off.  If you are having trouble getting it to start twisting, I wrapped electrical tape over the teeth of some pliers and budged it with that, no scratches, no gouging.
Hope I was of some help.

well I deffinatly can't do it by hand and it won't budge with a pair of vise grips with a towel to protect the break. hinking.gif

Are you pushing the pin down before you try?

Yes.

Well I got her off with a little heat and more persuasion but the break is a lost cause I"ll need to get another.

BTW are your guys threads a little rough?  Mine don't seem to be the cleanest threads but than again I have not had one apart before.

Mine were slightly roughed up, but nothing serious.

Which way would you turn the break, clockwise or counter-clockwise, to remove it?

For the brake, it is right-loosey lefty-tighty.

Confusing, eh?

Very.

Ok I'm still having trouble with it. If you are looking at it from the top, right down the bore, is is clockwise or counter-clockwise. This thing will just not budge. The amount of pressure I'm putting on it seems like it would warp the barrel.

To loosen up stuck metal surfaces, tap, and then soak overnight in breakfree or similar penetrating compound. Heating the brake while keeping the barrell cool with an icepack, wouldn't be a bad idea either, just don't overdo it on heating. Keep tapping and soaking in breakfree, and it'll eventually give in.

Mine came off by turning it left if looking at it with the muzzle pointed towards me. It wouldn't budge the other direction. So i gave it a twist the other way and it came right off. Mines a WASR 10  BTW.
