WASR-10 is a lo-cap AK converted to accept hi-cap mags, an SAR-1 starts life as a hi-cap gun. As far as functionality goes, there really is no difference.

the main cosmetic difference is that the wasr lacks the magwell guide "dimples" in the side of the receiver.
