my friend recently got a SAR1. I was looking at it, and the barrel hole were the bullet comes out doesn't look completely round, it sort of looks like its an oval. you can see chrome on the two sides. Hard to explain. will try to show pics of it. Not sure if its safe to fire since, It was bought brand new, well it was made in 2002. Found this out after I stripped assembled it to give it its first full cleaning today. anybody ever hear of anything like this? |
| My guess is cleaning rod wear. As long as it does not protrude into the bbl it is not likely a safety hazard but an accuracy issue. But since I am guessing on your fuzzy pic, the lighting may simply highlight the fact that rifling grooves can leave a polygon shape at the muzzle. |

[sarcasm] (Looking at photo) I didn't know that the Romanians offered the SAR-1 in 5" US Naval chambering. [/sarcasm] (Couldn't resist.) Seriously, I believe that you are seeing the funky 45-degree-or-so bevel/chamfer at the crown. A couple of my Romanians have what appears to be slightly offset chamfers, but in reality the chromium plating masking was offset a bit. They shoot fine, and I expect that yours will also. Noah |

that's nuthin'! the first time i looked at the bbl./slide of my sig pistol from the front, i freaked out! clearance on one side of the slide hole...tight on the other...yet the bbl. was locked up tight! turns out, sig DOES bore the bbl. hole in the slide on a slight angle to achieve a tighter lockup. i still prefer my old 1911 with its' round hole bushing...which i can fit to suit myself! |
