So I understand there are some receiver cracking issues with these rifles if you shoot a lot of surplus heavy bullet ammo. My question is if I were to use a slower powder like IMR 4895 like was done in the M1 during its service if I might be able to lower the gas port pressure and thereby lower the bolt velocity enough to avoid these issues.
Could someone with hopefully extensive experience loading for the cartridge or rifle please chime in? Thanks |

I'm not sure about any specific ammo powder loads, but the rifle should only be used with light grain (148-152 grain) ammunition.
Any of the heavy ball 182-203 grain (yellow tip surplus) will cause problems. You want the light ball (silver tip) ammo. Sorry if it doesn't answer your specific question, but just some general guidance for the PSL. Good luck! |
