Hey guys, I don't come over to the ak forum very often, so don't laugh to hard if this is a dumb question. I have an SAR-1 and really want to SBR it and make a krinkov copy. Is this possible to do with this model, or is it not worth the hassle? I saw the SAM7K-01 pistols on Kvar's website and that's exactly how I want it to look, but I cant afford $1200 for one at the moment. Thanks in advance for any help.

No expert, but here's my 2 cents. You are barking up the wrong tree.
A SBR is not a pistol, it is a shoulder fired rifle with barrel under 16" or OAL less than 26".
Even if it were possible, it wouldn't be worth the hassle IMO. You have a $500 rifle+/-, add $200 for the tax stamp and who knows how much more $$$ for the parts and gunsmithing.
You also said you want it to look "exactly" the same. Technically impossible because the Kvar pistol has a milled receiver. I can relate to budgetary constarunts, but I would sell my Romanian and start saving up.

ETA: I wanted an AK "pistol" some years back and bought an AMD 65 kit with plans to purchase the receiver and 4473 it as a pistol. Granted, it would be a 12" barreled pistol, not a 10.5" Krink copy.
I figured it would basically cover the same need. A good BOB firearm with 5-20 rd. loaded Hungarian tanker mags. Never did get it done though.

Thanks for the info. I know an SBR is not a pistol, what I meant by that was would it better to try and register my sar-1, and then convert it, or just buy a sam7k and add a stock after its registered. I did a crappy job explaining that. I had a feeling it was going to be more hassle than it was worth converting my existing rifle. Thanks for the replied.

ETA: It doesn't have to look "exactly" the same as the sam7k, just more like a krinkov than it does now.

it has been done before, however you'd save yourself money by buying a yugoslavian PAP pistol or Romanian Draco and then doing the SBR, unless you're hellbent on getting a krink that looks like a 5.45 Russian style Krinkov in 7.62x39 then try finding a SLR-107U or UR model and sbr it

if I were you I'd do a Yugo Pap in 7.62x39, they're cheap over at J&G sales, the only issue would be putting the AKS-74U skeleton buttstock on there since the receiver is designed for an underfolder
