Hey all,

I have a friend's new (to him) SAR-3 that has no mags and needing of some TLC. Been doing some homework and I want to confirm that I am not overlooking anything to getting it all set. As far as completion, it needs a cleaning rod and buttstock cleaning kit, both, I found at Midway. Second was internals. I have looked into a Tapco G2 and a different hammer to keep the bolt from smashing. Red Star Arms has those. Last and most redic, is the magazines. Seems the Weigers are the best way to go and the best price is from Atlantic. So that's my overall plan aside from a good scrubbin. Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks ahead,
-B

Buy the redstar hammer and trigger pack. They are smooth as heck. Yep Wiegers and the best out of all of them.  The barrel is a 1x9 twist so liter bullets like 55gr 62 gr will work best in them. 69 did shoot in mine but 75 were a no go.

Atlantic doesn't have Weiger mags unless they have some not listed on the website. Yugoslavian M85 mags are not the same thing. There are Romanian copies that are very close to the original Weiger mags but also are not the same thing. If you want the best find some original German mags.

Thanks for the guidance! Went with Redstar for the internals and still shopping around for mags.

I got a SAR-3 on Sunday. I bought and modified some 223 pro-mags on and ran one box of ammo through with no issues.
I filed down the ribs so it would slide in easier, then removed  the tab sticking up in front of the bullet.

I am, not trying to find a new hammer. I will probably sell it soon, so I don't want to pay for the redstar trigger.

If you use the stock FCG, you run the risk of peening the back of the dang near impossible to replace bolt. The geometry is off on the stock parts.

Unless it has been milled.  One of the SAR-3's  I have someone had the hammer milled to correct the geometry on.  It pays to check to see if it has been fixed before pulling the FCG sometimes.

I placed a backorder for one from Canis last night. The Canis rep here said they should be getting a run in this month. They only do PP/check/MO though. -_-

There are steel Romanian 30 round .223 mags arriving from somewhere- I found 3 new  in bag for 33.33 each at a gunshow last week.

Anyone have info on where these came from? Or where I can find more?

Maybe I just got lucky.
