I was one of those people that accidentally bought a single stack WASR because I was uneducated at the time and it was cheap. I picked it up for $300, and did not realize that it was a single stack. After a few years of owning it, and increasing my knowledge of AKs, I decided to file out the mag well to accept double stack. I used nothing but a hand file to do the work (10+ hours). It was stupid of me not to use a dremel, but I do not own one. Plus I wanted to try and get as clean, straight of lines as I could. The magazine catch had to be filed a bit at the top as well so the mags could fit in it easily. Here are my results:

I took her out shooting afterwards and she works perfectly! Mag is nice and tight, no wobble, but still easy to change magazines! Very pleased with the results. If you are thinking of doing this to your single stack, do it! It was easy, just takes a while. This AK is ready to rock now, She's 922(r) complient and everything!
One more question, what paint should I use to paint the inner edge of the mag well that I filed? Something cheap but really durable. Duracoat is a bit pricey.

It wouldn't have been my first choice of tools, but for using just a file, I think it looks great. Good job!!
