There is a sale on AK's at my local Fleet Farm. They are the WASR-10 model. There is a Wood Butt Stock or there is an Underfolder. I like the wood stock but I can see where the underfolding can come in handy. Which one would you prefer?

I'd go with the fixed stock personally, they are easier to shoot.Just my opinion though,so YMMV.

Have you fired an UF 7.62 caliber AK? Not everyone enjoys shooting them.
Unless you have a compelling need for a compact rifle, I'd recommend the fixed stock.

I like both but fixed stock first

I have an UF and like shooting it.  I don't have any problems with shouldering it.  I do want a fixed stock next for the scope mount but I'm happy with what I have.

Even though I own three underfolders, I prefer fixed stock rifles.

If you are going to only have one AK, the fixed stock is the way to go. Under folders are cool, but cheek weld is like a cheap tennis racquet held to your shoulder.

I just recently acquired a WASR 10/63 underfolder, my first AK.  Now, I specifically purchased it intending for it to be a 'truck' gun, so I was looking for something compact.  Depending on what you want/need, your choice may be different.

Also, not that I have that much AK experience, but my understanding is that there are different types of underfolders, with differently angled stocks.  If you think that would make a difference, definitely check out the feel of the gun you're looking at before buying.

That said, I had no problems shooting the underfolder despite having minimal experience with AKs before.

I have a WASR underfolder and it is a lot of fun to shoot.  It is quite uncomfortable if you shoot it for a long time, though, and you won't be able to get a good cheek weld when aiming.  If I could have a do over I would probably go with the fixed stock, but I do like what I have now.

There are few things sexier than an AK with an underfolder stock. But I doubt there is a more uncomfortable stock anywhere. Get the fixed stock if you intend to shoot it often.

As a few have already stated..   I prefer the looks of the UF and the size, but the fixed is something I can shoot all day without complaining.

Also finding an UF with a tight stock is tough. Out of 4 century UF I've got one that is tight as a drum.

Get the fixed stock and slap a wire folder on it. Last I looked the folder was $60 and it's designed to right onto a fixed stock rifle with no modifications. The cheek weld kind of sucks, but it's better than the under folder and with a wrap or two of paracord it's perfect for iron sights.

Where did you find the wire underfolder for $60? I can't find any in stock at that price.

I have a both. A Yugo underfolder and a SGL-21.  The fixed stock is more comfortable to shoot. Seem to be more accurate too because of better cheek weld.
The underfolder shoot well enough, but not much place for cheek weld.

The underfolder was originally meant for troop who can’t carry a fixed AK. Like airborne and armor units, wasn’t really meant for regular troops.  The fixed stock is suiting for most general uses.  The underfolder is more useful when a compact rifle is necessary.

underfolder: compact and looks cool...and thats about it
fixed: much more comfortable to shoot and feels right on the shoulder

Side folder wire stock.Best of both fixed and underfolder stocks in one rifle.I just put a tantal side folder on mine,i love it.

In addition to the crappy cheek weld, UF's are also uncomfortable to hold with your forward hand.  The wide folding buttplate prevents a good grip on the handguard.  UF's do look cool, but the fixed stocks can outshoot them all day long.   Have you held the UF?  I've got UF and fixed versions.   Bought the one UF because I just had to have one.  I only shoot my fixed stock AK's. (except for the Draco "pistol', which is just a total stockless blast)

This is the correct answer. You can change stocks back & forth whenever you want in only 2 minutes. GARY  N4KVE

The Soviets never built firearms for comfort, nor did they ever teach "cheek weld" to their troops.  The AK underfolder is built like everything else was in Russia, for function.  UFs served a particular requirement and had to sacrifice a few "niceties" to do so...

I have both and both are pretty much the same as far as accuracy for me but I am comfortable shooting both. There is a slight nod to comfort on the fixed stock but not enough to bother. That being said I do most of my rifle shoots in fall and spring when the weather is cooler with a few winter shoots just to keep myself sharp so I am generally wearing a jacket. A light t-shirt may make the underfolder a little more uncomfortable.

My 2cents - get the underfolder first. There are multiple posts on doing a para-cord wrap to make it comfy.

Besides, when Obummer is re-elected he could rain on everyone's parade; he won't ban AKs outright at first but instead go after the evil-features first, like they did in the 89 and 94 bans. Ya know, the things that go up down and the long-hanging down things under the rifle and pointy things.

The kinds of things Pelosi, Schumer, McCarthy want to ban.

The AK U/Fs are the symbol of pure evil black rifles. When the folding features are banned, the "pre-ban" folders we can get today will be where its at. Then your'e SOL.

You will probably end up with both. Get the wood stock first and shoot the crap out of it. Get the UF as soon as you can thereafter and do the same.

I've tried both the full wrap as well as a wrap with the inner cords removed and like the bare metal better.  With the paracord, I'd start to get a rug burn under my jaw after firing a few hundred rounds.  I bought a UF first and though I want a fixed stock for extended shooting, I'm glad I got the UF first.

Underfolders are the best looking IMO.  But as far as shooting goes, full stock.
