Hi everyone!
I just joined AR-15 and wanted to show off my new rifle. This is the very first gun and rifle that I ever bought/owned. Over New Year's I purchased a WASR GP 10/63 from JG and have loved it. My background is in the M-16/M-4 since I'm in the Army National Guard, however the AK-47 has been easy for me to pick-up, learn, and appreciate. The WASR's entry-level rifle status appealed to me and so far it has not disappointed. It seems to lack the normal Century faults, ie cant, mag wobble. It is chrome lined. So far I havn't zeroed the rifle in, due to the winter weather and a recent TDY. The mods I've added to the rifle have been: 1) TAPCO Slot Muzzle Brake 2) East German Lower Handguard w/ Bulge 3) Hogue Pistol Grip w/ Storage 4) UTG Recoil Buttpad 5) UTG Tactical Sling I have 3 30rd Chinese AK mags, 1 30rd Euro Mag, 3 20rd Hungarian Tanker mags, and 1 40rd mag. So far I really like the Chinese and Hungarian magazines. My current projects for my rifle are to add a TAK Mag Latch, mount a scope, and mount a flashlight. **The only question I have about my rifle is the year it was made. Someone on here mentioned to look at the trunnion date, but not sure where to look.** Thanks for looking. http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n634/Veers1957/IMG_7000.jpg http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n634/Veers1957/IMG_6852.jpg http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n634/Veers1957/IMG_6851.jpg |

If the first four digits of the serial number are 1968 the trunnion was made in that year. If the other parts have matching numbers, those were made at that time.
Depending on when the rifle was reassembled, the barrel may have been made in '68 or it may be new production. |

I appreciate the advice. All the parts have matching numbers except for the safety lever (round part inside receiver has number) and recoil spring holder.
Does anything in the serial number, such as letters mean anything? How can I tell when the barrel was made? I got the rifle around New Years. |

Does anything in the serial number, such as letters mean anything? The letters are the "serial" during which the rifle was made. It APPEARS to me that the Romainians made a certain number of rifles using a specific letter combination and then changed that letter combination, but i've examined far too few rifles to have absolute confidence in that conclusion. How can I tell when the barrel was made? I can't help you with that. i haven't examined a WASR closely since the change was made. I got the rifle around New Years. |
