You can use the bristle brush dipped in a little oil to oil everything on the weapon that's hard to reach with a oily rag.
The manual http://www.box.net/shared/wfnjbu204s has a section on cleaning. And yes, the bore should get a light coat of oil. Hardchroming is very good but can have microcracks in it even when new. Those cracks are where corrosion is going to start and peel the chrome from the steel, accelerating the wear process. BSW |

I'm having a difficult time understanding what you are shoving up your WASR-2 bore. As a practical matter tho, brushes should pass in one direction only down the ol' pipe coz otherwise you are just pushing fouling back and forth rather than ridding the barrel of it AND possibly abrading it needlessly.
No matter. It is a great idea to leave a coat of light gun oil in any bore including chromed ones. 'Tis also a good thing to swab out same bore just prior to shooting with something to cut the oil; I use paint thinner. |

The ‘push one way only’ is mostly a benchrest shooter thing, like wearing lucky underwear to a rifle match. I don’t have a problem with running a reasonably clean brush back and forth thru the bore, particularly if you keep it nice and wet with whatever solvent you like to float any debris. Besides, it’s an AK, the fact that you are even running a brush down the bore means you are taking better care of you rifle than probably 40 million of the people that have AKs. As far as cleaning the bore right before shooting, I do that. I grew up in New Mexico and sand and dust was a constant problem. I’m still in the habit of wiping bores with a tight patch right before shooting (it also means you know your bore is clear of any obstructions, which can mess up your whole day). I’ve never used a lighter solvent to do this, just a tight, dry patch. BSW |
