i have a wasr-10 and i'm trying to adjust the front sight post windage drum. i have the tool and have been trying to use a few different solvents to get the drum to break free. i have even tried a small dowel rod and a hammer and got nothing. i tried looking for kroil today and couldn't find any. besides kroil, what's the best alternative that you used to adjust the front sight drum? and if kroil is the best option anybody know any retail stores that carry it?

TIA

Which tool do you have?
If it's the cheap Chinese made tool it will never work. The hole in the tool is smaller than the sight slide, so the slide binds against the tool.
This is due to the fact that the Chinese used a slide that is smaller in diameter than those used by the Warsaw Pact nations.

i'm not sure which one it is. it looks like the one from TAPCO but it wasn't in a TAPCO package. i got it from aimsurplus a while ago. i actually believe i may have worn out the threads on the tool. it's having trouble catching.

The TAPCO tool I have is clearly marked TAPCO.COM USA. The Chinese made tool I have is marked N.C.
The Chinese made tool has a rounded point on the end of the pusher. The TAPCO tool has a flattened end.
You can improvise a tool from an appropriately sized 1/4" drive socket and a C clamp. Use the socket as spacer so the slide has somewhere to go.

In lieu of Kroil, look for a quality penetrating oil such as PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench Penetrating Oil (Liquid Wrench makes a few different products).  Auto parts stores often stock this stuff, as do hardware stores.

WD-40 is not a penetrating oil.

Saturate it and give it several days to work.
