My psl has a feed problem.  The rounds coming out of the clip don't always chamber.  Most of the time the round would get stuck half way through then I have to assist it to go all the way.  Out of the 10 rounds in a clip I have to do this for about 7 of them.  Sometimes it won't even pick up the round in the mag instead it just hits the side of the casing and jams.  I thought that it was the mag so I grinded the front so it's a little smaller and and more slanted but it still doesn't work.  Any ideas?  Anybody else have a mag feed problem?  I only have 2 mags and they both do it.  One worse than the other.

I am not an expert on this topic.  Could be many things.

Something I and others wrote up on another post  http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=79&t=127882

1.  First and easiest thing to do is to disassembly both magazines and clean out the goo (from storage).  I found rusty goo in both of mine.  Might want to spray out w/ wd40 or a degreaser to try to strip everything out and then oil.   Also, look for rust spots inside magazines (I found them in mine from storage... very light rust but could stop the follower from traveling upward).   again, this is easiest.

2. Have you cleaned out the cosmoline/grease out of the new gun?  Take all apart and get real clean.

3.  Is this a new gun out of the box?

4.  do you have a Cugir Romanian built psl or one from CAI Century?

========
quick copies from the other post:
1. Try different magazines.
2. If the rifle malfunctions with more than 1 magazine, try firing the rifle while holding the magazine with the support hand and pushing the magazine up.
3. If the rifle operates properly when fired while pushing the magazine up, return the rifle to Century. The magazine catch/trigger guard are not located properly and as a result the magazine is not positioned properly.
4. If the rifle continues to malfunction, post some pictures.

=============

On my Galil and PSL I took each mag apart and then cleaned everything out (even if it didnt look like it needed to be cleaned).
My PSL mags had some goo and rust in them and other assorted stuff from being stored for so long (even though they were 'new' but unissued) Also had to dremel one to get to fit.
Galil mags were the same way (used Guatamalen or Costa Rican I think).
Both functioned much better after that. Mags still might not be the problem...

===============

Feed ramp could be too high or low or something else...  1st thing to do is work over the mags.

make sure when you load each round the rim of the cartridge is in FRONT of the round it sits on top of.......

I already disassemble the mags and cleaned them out  took the spring and everything.  I got the gun at a gun show and it did not come out of a box.  It's a cugir build.  The only thing I didn't try was to hod the mag while firing.  Another thing is that it may just be me but it seems to get worse as the gun warms up.  Maybe I should just take it to a local gunsmith and see what he can do with it because I really like the gun.

Is there any play (up and down) in the magazine when it's locked in? If so, try firing the rifle while holding the magazine and pushing up.

No the mag clicks in and is solid,I could have probably use it as a pistol grip.

could you take photos and post?  Even a camera phone will do.

Load a mag and photo (I know that on my mags after I load I have to 'bump' the mag from the bottom to get the 1st round to point up at a small angle out ot the mag).

Load mag into psl and photo.  If at home be very very careful not to shoot gun...

Pull bolt back and photo what is in opening.  Release bolt and see what will do.

also, bust it all open and take photos of the inside where rounds load in.

You get the idea.

Can you recreate the problem by cycling the bolt at home while loaded?

I am occasionally getting the same problem.  I think it is a weak mag spring, but can't say for sure.  I am going to reclean my mags and look for burrs, high spots, etc...  Last but not least, I'll lube with some silicone spray and see if that helps.

If all else fails, I'll swap in some shortened and cheap HK G3 mag springs and see if I get any better results.

I have 14 magazines for my PSL and when I took them apart to clean them up, some of them had the spring installed backwards…  If the spring is backwards, there will be a pressure bias towards the rear and the bullet tip will have a tendency to nose-dive when the bolt tries to pick it up causing an instant jam.

Akira536 - I bet Snot Rocket got it right!   When I took apart my mags I was very careful to memorize which way the springs came out and went back in.
