Using other gas tubes? > Romanian

I found a very nice norinco mak90 gas tube with nice wood and the ported end for cheap at the last gun show i went too. I asked if it would work on the romanian ak's', both the guys assured me to would fit perfect, no problems at all. The gas tube on my rommy, is messed up on parts of the metal, so i decided to buy it. When i got home, and tried to put the mak90 gas tube on, it was a little bit longer and would not fit. Its really close, but not going to work without cutting down the end.

So my question is, are any other gas tubes from other ak's just drop in? Or do they all need some work? Anybody else using other kinds?

Anything off a European AKM "should" drop right in. The exceptions being Yugo's I believe, and possibly others but none that I am aware of. If you really want to you could file down the front end of the Chinese one you've got to make it fit and it will function just fine.

you could prolly make it fit but it may not cycle because of the excess gas it will be venting. if you look at the chinese the gas block it is not slotted like your romy is, thats why the gas tube has the holes. dono for sure but instead of ruining it just sell it and buy the correct one. MPO

The holes in the Chinese tube will not cause function problems. The gas is not under pressure once the piston moves out of the gas block.

Which is how a recently banned dumb ass got away with drilling a bunch of holes in his gas tube "for the hell of it" and still had a functioning rifle.

It should be fine.

I've recently learned the importance of having some kind of vent holes in the gas system.
My pistol build has no holes (currently) and the action, gas tube, even the handguards get filthy after only a couple magazines.

cool, if vent holes will not effect function i'm getting vented tubes for all my ak's cause they look better

True on the Yugo, and maybe, possibly, certain Hungarians like possibly AMD parts. I say that because I had to do a tiny amount of Dremel to a spare tube to use on one of my Romys - and it was absolutely not a Yugo tube.
