Newbie to the PSL, any help appreciated. The top and side knobs, how do they work? I only shot it using the irons. I thought they were self evident, you turn the knobs to adjust the sight. OK, that was just being a JA. I love my Kalinka scope, it is my second PSO scope and when all else fails you look through the scope as you adjust the cross hairs to where you are hitting (that's what the instructions say for the most part). Once you have done that you can set it to then correspond with your markings on your knobs by loosening a few screws (for that best look at the instructions from Kalinka). After you have done that it is right on for the 7.62x54R ammo, but if you use it for other calibers (I have a Yugo in 223 that I use it on as well) you need to either read up on the ballistics and see how they compare to the 7.62x54R or trial and error. Have fun and don't shoot your eye out. |

I've noticed that the windage turret moves point of impact at 100 yds, by about 4 inches per click. Suppose your rifle is shooting 2 inches to the left. One click will now put it 2 inches to the right. How do you zero these rifles when the smallest resolution is 4 inches ! That may be fine for Eastern Block combat shooting, but hardly acceptable for target shooting. What were they thinkiing?
I guess when you're aiming to hit a man in the chest at 100 yds, 4 inch resolution is close enough. But hitting a coke can at 100 yds is difficult with that type of resolution. Of course with the PSL's thin long barrel (which heats up and warps, in addition to whipping around during firing), the long creepy travel of the trigger, and the "top quality" 1980's Soviet-era surplus ammo, I'd be hardpressed to hit a coke can with my PSL even if the scope had 1/8" clicks. Also, I've noticed that the entire reticle in my scope is way over to the left in the objective view. I assume (making an ass of me, at least) that the screws on the scope base can be loosened and very thin shims placed placed between the two main pieces of the base to shift the reticle closer tthe centerline of the scope view. |
