[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Underfolder front handguard. WTF ??

Hi Guys,

Noob here.....Just got a Romy underfolder with the vertical front handguard. As you all know, the stock will not clear the foregrip in the folded position. Anyone have any tips for modifying the standard foregrip from the forward sweep to the rear or straight sweep so the stock will fit flush??

Anyone have an original one they can part with??

You have to get the other lower handguard which curves towards the mag end.So the underfolder will wok.

I'd just get a regular handguard without vertical grip or cut the current handguard to that configuration until you find what you want...

Sounds like you have a foregrip from a MD-63 (which angles forward).You need to find one from a MD-65 (which angles straight down and is a bit shorter). I found mine on EE. Not too many out there for sale,,,,,,,so expect to pay more for it.

To be honest,, You would be better off with a normal front foregrip without any pistol grip. Changing a 30rd mag is still a problem if changing mags in a hurry.The pistol grip gets a bit in the way,the clearances are close.....

I trimmed the back corner off my romanian foregrip. It makes it much easier to load mags and IMO looks better. I still can't do the ultra cool tactical magazine slap ejection thing, but oh well, I guess I'll manage.

Hello lavgrunt,

I think that you may be requiring a lower front handguard such as the one used by this Romanian soldier. These, along with lower handguards without a grip, were very common prior to 1990. I have not seen a regular forward pointing lower handguard with an underfolder.

Thank You for posting that picture Serb.
That is a MD-65 pictured note it is a bit shorter and has a slight rearward bend. A 30rd mag gets real close to this grip.
