I'm an AR guy, but yes, as with every other person who values their 2nd ammendment right I recently went out and purchased my first AK47 but didn't pay an arm and a leg like the tards on GB.  The carbine is 7.62x39mm and it has a 16" chrome lined barrel.  My question is which ammo is safe to run through it?  Steel cased wolf should be fine with the AK, right?  Do AK's have twist?  How do I know which grain size is safe to shoot?  Looking forward to shooting this puppy!

Thanks

Huh?  :)

I'm sure the in-the-know guys can answer this question, but I've never seen it discussed for AKs.  I know it's a common topic with ARs.

steel cased ammo runs  great. just clean it before you go to brass cased.

7.62x39 ammunition doesn't vary widely in bullet weight the way 5.56 ammunition does.
Common weghts are 122, 123, and 124. All those will work well in your rifle. 154g soft point is also available. Buy a box and try it.

In my experience, Golden Tiger FMJ ammunition is good as are the Wolf Military Classic FMJ and HP cartridges.

lol it like your asking questions about a AR

ak's are not picky on ammo, they will shoot whatever you get wolf, gold tiger, silver/brown bear, winchester, steel cased, brass cased, zinc cased, 122gr, 124gr, FMJ, HP, SP

i dont know what twist ak barrels are but i know what my AR barrel twist is, that being said it doesnt matter shoot what ever you can get for it

how much did you pay for it? and how about some pics?

Congrats! As far as ammo goes, I just shoot whatever's cheap and non-corrosive. My WASR hasn't failed me yet.

Thank you sir for the info.

I didn't know if AK barrels were like AR's.  My AR has a 1:12 twist thus I'm pretty much restricted to 55gr bullets.  Wasn't sure if AK's were like this...

I ordered from Henderson Defense.  $469.95.  Shipped yesterday, will post ASAP!

My local shop has 100 rounds of Wolf Military Classic for $30.00.  I'm going to clean them out tonight, just wanted to check the grain issue first.

Try different brands. My WASR likes Barnual. Any Russian should be fine to shoot. You are now a nasty evillll commie bastard(according to the AR Koolaid drinkers).
