I took my "new" wasr out to sight in today and was having issues with failure to fires. Looking at the primer strike, it looked liked the firing pin's point was gone (Flat face, not round at all). I'm guessing this is not the correct shape of a firing pin point, and it should have a rounded face? The primers on the fired cases looked to be backing out a little and where the pin is striking is raised a little. Only some primers looked to back out a hair, but all had a raised area where the pin struck.

On the good side, the sights were dead on and no adjustment needed.

Called CIA and they will send me a new firing pin once I send back a waiver form to change out the firing pin myself. Tried driving the retaining pin out but seems to be in there pretty tight, soaking it in CLP.

How do the sides of the spent cases look? Hope you saved a few..

Firing pin on mine has a flat face.  I've never had a fail to fire.  You may have cosmoline in the bolt.  When you shake the bolt, does the firing pin "click' back and forth freely?

Cases look fine, no signs of bulging. And yes the firing pin moves freely.

So your saying the your firing pin also has a totally flat face and sharp edges?

So what could cause intermittent light primer strikes? Hammer spring, headspace?

First thing I'd check is the bolt, the pin should move back and forth freely when you shake it

Definitely the firing pin. On the right is the firing pin from my MAK90, on the left is the firing pin from the WASR. Both look to be the same dimensions other then the pin tip. Looks like someone was trying to drive nails with it . Plus it looks a little rusty/corroded.

Day-um!  Well, forget everything I said, your pin is for sure jacked-up.

Yep, ordered a replacement from K-Var. Too bad shipping is more then the price of the firing pin itself. Should have picked out another item to justify the shipping but didn't want to piss the wife off. CIA Wanted a photo copy of my drivers license sent/faxed back to them along with the DIY waiver form for them to ship out a replacement, didn't feel like going through the trouble of doing that so I just went through K-Var for simplicity. Ordered this morning, shipped this afternoon.

Received the new firing pin today; looks much better (New) then the one that was in the rifle when I bought it. Will have to say K-Var is very fast on shipping. Will try to go out tomorrow and test it out.

My WASR 10/63 is followed by UF. I assume this is for underfolder because it is.

New firing pin fixed it. Shot two mags of mixed Wolf (HP and FMJ) with no issues. Was cold, windy, and blowing snow so I cut my range session short.
