I'm confused... I have this parts kit. I was told it is a 7.62x39 Romanian MD63 Underfolder.

Then I see this picture on Wikipedia of a Romanian soldier with a caption that calls my parts kit an "AIMS" (a Romanian version of the Russian AKMS).

Can anyone identify what the rifle in the parts kit is...with some level of certainty?? Thanks in advance.

There must be an MD63. This can't be a coincidence...  take a look at these three.

And I can go on... just Google " Romanian AK47 MD63"

The Model '63 (MD63) is simply another name for the AIM, which was adopted in 1963. The correct term for your gun would be either AIMS, or MD63 Underfolder.

Coincidently, this topic was brought up on the other forum.  I think the correct term for your underfolder is "MD65."  The "MD63" was the full-buttstock version.

Yep... I think you are correct. I was told the same thing by others recently. MD65. But I am not so sure that MD stands for the word "Model". The translation to Romanian is "modell" so why not M65? I think MD is short for two words. The M may mean model.

Different countries, different ways of doing their nomenclatures probably.
