I'd say they flop around a "normal" amount for a Century gun, but they also get stuck.  It seems to be related to how the mag is positioned, rotationally.  Looking at the rifle from the bottom, if I rotate the magazine as far as possible counterclockwise, it snaps in fine and comes out easy.  Rotated clockwise, the mag catch gets stuck on the whatchamacallit on the way in, and I need a screwdriver to move it again (or to rotate the mag counterclockwise).  This is my first AK, but I suspect this isn't normal.

It looks like the top of the mag catch is uneven.  From the bottom, barrel pointed up, the right side is taller than the left.  Would filing that down flat help?  I don't want to send it back, because the front sight is perfect and other than the sticking, I'm satisfied with the mag well.  The 30 round mag that came with it flops like a fish, but the 40 rounder wobbles just a tiny bit, and my drum is as tight as a... drum.  Given that it's an AES-10B, that may even be how the mag well is supposed to be.  I ordered a bunch of 40s from CDNN, scheduled to be delivered today, so we'll find out.

Do you have the problem with one magazine, or with all of them? Obviously, if it's only one magazine you should look at it. If it happens with all the magazines, you should look at the rifle.
I've had one magazine that I had to file in order to make it release properly. It wouldn't release in any of my rifles. After a few strokes with a fine file, it works in all of them.

The 30 and the 40 both did it, while the drum did not.  Filing the thing level worked perfectly, though the mags will still stick if they're levered all the way to one side while trying to release.  Looks like the mag well is slightly uneven, and a shim on one side should fix that entirely.

jb weld is your friend. one of mine would bind if the mag slid back too far.  i built up the rear of the magwell/trigger guard with jb weld and filed it to fit.  finished it with a parkerize marker from brownells.  works great.  in retrospect i should have drilled out the trigger guard rivets ant move it forward but i doubt i could have moved them 1/16" and gotten it secure again.
