hello all. i got the bright idea to fieldstrip my rifle to clean it prior to me shooting it.  I disassembled it per the instructions and reassembled it (that's another tale of woe, I won't make the mistake of fieldstripping my rifle ever again.), except i can't get the top cover back on.  How do you get it around the tab in the back and the end down on the front? I can get it on one end or the other but not both at once.

Push it into the slots in front, the recoil spring guide/top cover lock will push forward when you push down on the top cover in the back.

So hold the top cover as far forward as it goes, set the back of it down on top of the recoil spring/take down button, and then pop the top cover straight down with your hand.  The spring will move forward and pop back out into the opening.

Now if you have a Yugo with the take down button for the recoil spring guide, then you will need to make sure that the spring isn't locked past the button before you do this.  Otherwise you're going to hurt your hand and probably damage the top-cover.

ok, I have the cover over the button in the back.  I can't get the front of the cover past the front sight block.

Don't get discouraged. After you've done it a few times reassembling an AK is easy.
