What's up guys/gals.... I'm looking to get back into an ak but I dont want to spend a bunch of $. Right now Dunhams has the wasr for 220.00, not a bad price. I do owne a nice Norinco Hunter, but it does not have that AK "look" I guess. Plus I hardly ever see them so it more or less just sits and get cleaned. What do you guys think? |

I don't know if the place you are referring to is a store or a company that ships out to you. If it is a store where you can compare and inspect a number of them closely and knowing the various flaws that are common can find a "keeper"? Hell yes I would say that is a good price. I decent WASR goes for more than that used. Its $220 OTD? They throw in a couple of mags or anything like the standard Century package? If so then its even more attractive, but really at that price you could afford all the correct accessories you wanted, afford to pretty up the wood to your liking and still have more money for ammo. I already have a WASR and a second certainly wasn't on my shopping list but for that price, so long as I coould find a "keeper" I'd be all over it. Now if it is a company that just ships out its more of a crap shoot. You have to rely on THEM finding you a "keeper" Cheers, RWB64 |
OK, sometimes saying you did a search first helps people help you ![]() Probably 60% of people here have at one point owned one. Most people are happy with them--they're a good rifle and a good price. Sometimes can be a crapshoot--inspect carefully for a canted site or mag wobble. Both are easily fixable, but you want it good out of the box (which generally they do come fine). The $220 is certainly the single stack variation that only take low capacity magazines. You can dremel out the magazine well, but you're probably better getting a century-modded double stack. |

Hello speed, I've been watching for a Dunham's sale ad in my local newspaper. If I see a WASR for $220 guess were I'll be heading ?!?!? (Dunham's is a multi-state sporting good store -- you can inspect the rifle before you purchase one)The WASR is an "entry-level" single-stack AK. Ain't too pretty but she'll go BANG when you pull the trigger. If not mistaken all Romy AK's come into the U.S. of A. as a single-stack. Century opens them up and adds the correct number of U.S. parts to make them legal. For the price of $220 I'll take my handy-dandy Dremel and go to work. Tinker with it a little bit and you'll be happy . . . . $220 today - wonder what the price will be once Hiltery get the nod in November . . . |
yep , but like you said, dont forget the 922 parts for compliance. |
great screen-name !oh ya and eta- to give this post some substance +1 to canted_wasr10s post. My first wasr was a POS when I got it from the century monkeys, it required a little tinkering but ended up a great rifle. Front sight was not canted but it actually hang-fired when I first bought it. Squeeze the trigger, nothing. Release the trigger, nothing. mmm 'bout 2 seconds later ...BANG!! Scariest f-ing thing I'd ever seen. I was new to aks and that did not impress me much... It got better.. |

I was getting ready to purchas a WASR at Dunham's last summer, when they were selling 5.45X39's for $249. That particular WASR was the only one in the case, so I was unable to inspect the one I would have ended up with ( "Uh, they are in the back, you will get one of those") ...... I told the dude I wanted to inspect the actual gun I was going to put on layaway, so I could make sure the FSB wasn't on upside down and the mag well wasn't cut sidways....... Guy behind the counter said no big deal, you can inspect it when you pick up the layaway, hahahahaahahahaha. Don't get me wrong, I have bought a lot of stuff from Century, and I know they would take care of any major issues, but the kids at Dunhams must be overworked and underpayed. That place is always a disaster when I go there, and there are around three employees for the whole store. I'm still trying for find out when they have the mystical sale on 5.45 WASR's for $199..... I don't care what kind of condition they are in at that price, duct-tape and krylon will fix that up real fast, hehehe. |
