im trying to replace the FCG with the G2 double hook on the MAK90 but i can not remove the safety selector as stated in the first step for removal.  i can not get it past the disconnector.  what am i missing?  i can get it past a certain portion but then i cannot move it any further.

Just push the trigger pin out a little so you can move the trigger group some and you can get the selector out. I have a rifle like that too.
