I just bought a Norinco NHM-90.  Being king of doing things in the wrong order, I now have a couple questions...

The gun is blued, and has a blond wood stock set and seperate pistol grip.  It also has a blank tack welded over the muzzle threads, and the bayonet lug is ground off.  I presume this is a post-89 gun (hence the low price), but I'm confused by the traditional stock.  Shouldn't this model have a dragunov or thumbhole stock to be importable?  FWIW, the serial is MS0172xx.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site!

It is definitely a Post-89 rifle. The stocks could of been changed by the original owner. Technically they should of made sure that the rifle had the correct number of US made parts to switch the stocks, but that doesn't mean they did.

Click on the link for the Chinese rifles page of my web pages. Scroll down to the NHM-90 info.

It originally came with a thumbhole stock(USA made at that). The butt stock and pistol grip was added by the last owner. Use a dremel and take the tack welds off the pipe fitting and it is threaded. The flash hider spring and pin has been depressed for quite a few years so oil the hell out of it. Add a few US made parts and your set o go. I wouldnt mess with the trigger group as Chinese guns ususally have real good triggers. Heres mine after a makeover.
