I'm considering buying a "pre-ban" Polytech Mak-90 parts kit that was supposedly warehoused for the last 10 years. Now, comes with every part except fron/rear trunnions, receiver and trigger guard. Can I purchase US receiver, trigger guard and trunnions to make it 922r legal? If so, where can I get these parts? Thanks |

Well, after much searching, I couldn't find any trunnions - even spoke to Global Trades who told me they were only importers of Chinese 19mm parts. I can now see why the are practically giving away MAK90 parts kits for $80. Thanks for all the advice, but I bought a Bulgy AK47 kit instead...plenty of parts. Ya know, I can't figure out why Klinton had it out for the Chinese weapons merchants, but did not hesitate to accept their campaign contributions! PS: Just finished watching the last debate 'tween W and John he GET YER VOTES OUT ON 11/2 OR WE'RE |
| The reason the Poly Tech MAK-90 kits are so cheap is the kits were disassembled from milled receiver rifles. The barrel is threaded and was screwed into the milled reciever. So a 19mm trunion would do you no good as you would have to thread it to screw the barrel in or turn the threads off the barrel. |
| Yup, too many problems with this rifle - so I went ahead and purchased an unused Bulgarian SLR parts kit from Centerfire (wood thumbhole buttstock so I guess it's a 96 rather than the 95). I cannot afford the nearly $400 for the milled receiver, so I'll probably sell it and install a stamped one and US-made standard stock set. It cost twice as much as the MAK90, but I hear Bulgys are good weapons as well... |

CubanPete01 - I just got in one of CenterFireSystems MAK 90 parts kits yesterday - the chamber end of the barrel is not threaded. It does have very light machining marks from whats looks to be when the barrel was orignally turned. In this picture (not mine) look on the lower left hand corner - it has the same machining marks I'm speaking of. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jfreeman246/grinder_marks.jpg I can't post a pic at the moment of what the chamber end of the barrel actually looks like - but let me describe it - for I have a question. The very end (chamber end) of the barrel has the light marks as seen above and is of uniform diameter, about 1 inch long. The next inch of barrel above that has a slightly larger OD and is smooth - no machining marks like above. My question is - when a barrel gets pressed into a trunnion - is hte part that makes contact the very end of the barrel - or the slightly raised area just above that? |

The above image is not the actual image of the barrel I had in the parts kit, I only used it as an example to show what the machining marks look like. The parts kit did not have any of the reciever left with it. I had one these parts kits to use for a build, but the only sources I found that had 19mm chinese front trunnions wanted more than I was willing to spend to obtain them. Parts kit has since been returned, and I'm saving up a bit more cash to pick up an assembled MAK 90 to work with. |
| Everything looked 99%+, no scratches or anything, matching serial #'s. Furniture was your standard "orange" wood like you see on most MAK 90s. I was all ready to order the receiver and trunnions when I found out Global didn't have any 19mm trunnions available and they don't expect to import any for at least 6 months. Didn't want to go through the hassle of machining a 19 to 23mm adapter sleeve to drill/weld onto the barrel to use a 23mm euro trunnion, and didn't want to pay the high price for the few chinese 19mm trunnions I did find. |
