Just picked up norinco ak and ive checked the site for info but still not sure what year or model i have?

Gun has been painted so it is possible that something is still covered up

Norinco 56s-does not say mak90(says norinco on the side below the front trunnion)
seriel number 51xxxx
threaded barrel w/slanted comp
Small square piece of metal on the bottom of gas block-mabye a bayo lug?

If it says Norinco 56S and it isn't crossed out and replaced with MAK 90 then it is a Pre89 Norinco 56S.

Then that is an early import Norinco 86S and it is pre89

It probably has a smooth pistol grip as opposed to a checkered pistol grip.
