A guy locally has a NHM-90 in good shape and for sale. It has the rear trunion cut-outs/cover plates for an underfolding stock.
Has anyone done this conversion and, if so, how hard is it? Thanks. |

Its not difficult to take off the thumbhole stock and replace it with an underfolder; if they added an upper tang to the rear trunnion, you could remove it. I don't know how easy/ difficult finding an underfolder kit is though...
Here is a guide to adding/removing an underfolder: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_4_93/101450_Folding_Stock_Disassembly_Guide___pics_rehosted__and_now_available_to_all__see_OP_.html |

Have you fired an underfolder and know that you'll like it? If you haven't I'd buy the rifle but don't alter it until you fire an underfolder first before you permanently alter a rifle that is no longer importable.
Some poeple who have don't like them. Just some food for thought. |
| I have a Mak-90 that was set up just like the OP described and I bought a brand new Chinese underfolder from a guy on another forun and when it got here it took me all of about, well less than a hour and I had the stock removed, The rivit cut and plates removed, tang cut off and folder installed. I love the folder but like mentioned above their not for everybody. It's all 922'rd now and just a great gun. I filed the tang stub down even with the rear trunion and cold blued it real quick and you cant tell it was ever there. Makes a great truck gun because in the folded position it takes up very little room but snaps in to action with the push of a button. |
It's not hard at all really. You'll have a harder time finding parts. Here's one I did a couple years ago..
If you have access to the other site I have more step by step pictures..http://www.theakforum.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=57011 Quoted:

Just some food for thought. It's a good point that an underfolder isn't for everyone, but it's not like NHM-90s or MAK-90s are some kind of rare collection piece not to be altered. Even if he spent the money to convert it, he'd probably have no problem recouping what he spends. I bought mine at $360 and as it sits I have about $650 in it. I'd make quite a bit if I sold it. Even at $500 or $600 and $100 in conversion parts, a well done conversion minus the GB and FSB would still bring $600-$700 easy. |
