My Poly Tech AK sidefolder has a checkered pistol grip, others do not. Why the difference and is one more sought after?
Thanks |

Generally, it was just a model thing for Polytech. However, some rifles that seemed to usually ship with a smooth wooden pistol grip sometimes had a checkered one. Who knows why the factory sometimes did this.
But many like the smooth pistol grip as that was commonly what was assembled on the military issue Type 56 and Type 56-1 rifles with the stamped receiver. Regarding the Type 56 and Type 56-1 with milled receivers, both the thicker smooth grips and checkered grips seemed to have been used. |

+1. I've got photos somewhere of a Chinese AK factory where folks are assembling furniture on the rifles. In the case of the Polytech Legends, the wood furniture will always (should always) match up as the handguards, pistol grip, and buttstock are from the same billet of wood for each rifle. They're then cut, stained, and assembled together for each rifle. So, each pistol grip will have the checkered style pattern.
However with the other rifles, sometimes different wood furntiture was made available - often old military surplus that had to be used. Which is why some of the semi-auto Chinese Type 56 and Type 56-1 rifles that were imported sometimes have the early style "vented" upper handguard instead of the later "non-vented" style. |
