I own one of the "warehouse" or "lawsuit" Polytech AKS-762 SP rifles. Apparently, a shipment of rifles left China and was in a warehouse when the ban went down; after a lawsuit, they were imported with very rough de-banning. My muzzle had a thread protector tack-welded on and the bayo ground off, as well as a thumbhole stock.

Anyway, the FSB looks like crap. Nothing I've done to this point is permanent (other than cutting off the welds to thread on the brake); I was thinking about trying to find a Chinese FSB to replace it, but with the railed for-end, I'm not going to be able to install the bayonet anyway.

Should I just dremel off what remains of the OEM bayo mount (four little tabs on the bottom of the FSB), or should I try to find a FSB to replace it that's from a post-ban Chinese rifle, an original pre-ban with bayo, or just let it go? My initial feeling is to cut the tabs off and hit it with some cold blue, but I'm worried that someone out there may care about these rifles more than I do and dremelling the FSB may destroy something some other builder cares about.

I dunno. I should probably sell it (never can find ammo to shoot it :( ), but I still want to remove evidence of the ban from a nice rifle.

If you want to send me some pics I just might buy it exactly the way that it is. I've been looking for a nice restoration project.

I will admit that I had not thought of that. Will do.

I have the same gun and I need the FSB. I Canted the sight hammering on the drift pin. Now the thing will swing all around the barrel if you tap it with a rubber mallet. Rather than fix it now, I would like the bayonet FSB. Unfortunately, they seem to go for over 200 bucks. If you find a supply, let me know.

It is a $500 rifle at most.  I wouldn't spend any money on it.  You can contour the ground areas and hit them with cold blue but there is no way I'd install a bayo fsb on it.

So my Polytech is only worth what the latest crap from Romania sells for? Obviously my gun is not a preban, but I seriously doubt it's a $500 gun when the Century nightmares sell for that.

I just bought a mint milled Chinese MAK90 today for $575 from a dealer. Stamped guns cost less.  Prices are coming back down, including Century nightmares. They're below $450 now.  GARY  N4KVE

Yep! It sucks but that's why I favor Chinese and not Romies for $500

That's not a bad price there. I just saw the same thing new on GB for $120 while looking for other parts today. It deffentlly pays to ask before you shop for sure.

The real FSB/bayo's units are going for $300 or so new from what I've seen, if you can find them.

There seems to be a flood of new Polytech parts going around right now for some reason.

The other option you may want to look at is replacing the original FSB with a Bulgarian FSB internal diameter is .590.   I installed one on my Mak -90 with some minor fitting (it was tight) .    The one I received from K-Var was new, parkerized  or at least looked parkerized and did not have the pin holes fully drilled.    This FBS holds in the cleaning rod and is compatible with type 1 bayonets.

I bead blasted, wire brushed and cold blued it to better match the mak’s finish.   I would recommend mikeing your barrel right behind your FSB before ordering, mine miked at .589 on a crappy plastic RCBS mike.   Posting pics and links is beyond my ability but I’ll ask the wife to help me out and try to post some pics later .
