Ironwood Link Try looking here, this will show you the different types of receivers. |
| There is a mystery here surrounding the differance in slash cut recievers as opposed to straight cut. I have done alot of research on the topic and got most of my information from this site as alot of the poeple here have alot of knowledge about this platform. being that the post ban mak90's had to be so called legalized to enter the country, part of that legalization included that horrific thumb hole stock for both stamped and milled versions. The mystery is that under that thumbhole stock is either a slant or straight cut. As far as i know there is no differance in operation or performance. As to why they made these two i just don't know. perhaps someone else on the board could shed some light on the history of that. From what i have seen the straight cut seems to be the more popular version. For me, the big reason i've been trying so hard to figure this out is because i have a mak90 on layaway. it has a thumb hole stock on it and i have plans of changing the furniture to make the rifle look more tactical than traditional. if the reciever is slash cut it gives me alot less options in changing the stock. As far as i know there are only a few options like 1. keeping the thumbhole stock 2. adding a folder 3. adding a dragunov style stock 4. buying a wooden stock from ironwood. If mine turns out to be slashed i'm going with option 4. ironwood makes nice stuff and i can get an unfinished one and paint it or stain it how ever i want. if the stock turns out to be straight cut, the sky's the limit to what can be done. Unfortuneatly with the thumhole stock in place i cannot tell what kind i have. it seems i will not know until i can get it home and remove it to see. I've tryed like hell to find away to tell without taking it off and i've come up empty. Having it on layaway is killing me. I'm kind of broke right now so i have to wait. And thats the worst part!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Yeah bro i'm a harley man. I have a tricked out 98 springer that has so much crhome on it, it's hard to look directly at it on a sunny day...LOL.... As far as my mak, i did pull the top cover off but i did'nt have a flashlight to get a good look in there. Next time i go up there i will make sure i have one. being that i have it on layaway i'm not sure if they would refund me the money. The only other AK's they have are four WASR's and they are charging $500 and up for them. They are truly out of thier minds. |

My MAK90 has the slant receiver. It started life (pre-ban) with the thumb hole stock. I had a TAPCO FUSION T-6 system put on by my gunsmith (he's my SAW gunner in my Guard unit). It's obvious, but doesn't effect the operation or fit. I also had a new trigger group put in for compliance. I wonder if there's an aftermarket spacer? |
| Here's the story on the slant cut recievers.....THEY STARTED OUT AS BEING INTENDED TO MAKE UNDERFOLDERS...with the ban the chinese saw the writing on the wall and used whatever recievers they had in stock before the door was closed on them completely... the slant cuts have a plate that should have been installed to follow the contour of the slant cut and block the rear of the reciever opening....instead the chinese just slapped in a regular fixed stock rear trunnion put on the thumbhole stock and shipped it.... incidentally that's how we came to get the MAKs with the third hole for the auto sear... they were in a hurry to fill orders=use military recievers because they were on hand at the time |
