I'm purchasing an AMD65 from AIM surplus. I want to change out the plastic rear and forward pistol grips with a set of Ironwood AMD 65 hand guard and rear grip. I know the AMD wasn't designed to have a traditional hand guard but I would prefer it with one. So, what modifications will I have to make? Ironwood has a set made for it, but I think I will need that cap that goes on the front of the top part of the guard. Is that correct? Where can I get one?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

A standard lower will fit with minor mods. Look at the retainer where it holds the sheet metal lower on, at the top you will notice two nipple looking things, you need to put dimples in the lower at these points.
For the upper it would be easier to get a standard gas tube and trim it down to length, the retainers for the upper are spot welded to the tube. |
