Looking at buying an Arsenal SAM-7 model, but wanted to ask about two things.  First, what are the differences between the regular rifle and the carbine, besides overall length?  Secondly, what advantages/disadvantages with the muzzle brake on the rifle?  I know reduced recoil, quicker followup, more muzzle noise, etc. but does the AK rifle really need a brake?  Just curious, new to these rifles.

Thanks for any thoughts.

The overall length is shorter on the carbine because the buttstock is shorter and it lacks a muzzle brake. Whether it needs a brake or not is a subjective issue but I like it.

the only aks i've shot is a hungarian model. 7.62x39. the recoil wasn't that great. i own an ar-15 and didn't notice a whole huge differance. and if you've shot an ar you no it is a kitten to shoot. i don;t like brakes, but want the scope rail on the sam-7s so it is a necessary evil to "cope" with the brake to get the scope rail. don't know if this helps, but i tried.

More new to SAM-7 questions.

If the AW Ban does sunset, can a sidefolding stock be added to the SAM-7?

From what I heard, the muzzlebrake on this rifle is VERY effective for directing the hot gasses out of your line of sight during night time shooting. bwahhahaha

I tested the standard SA M7 and SA M7 Carbine in low light at sundown.

The muzzle brake is a pretty good flash hider!  Without the brake, the Carbine produces a fireball the size of a basketball.  The brake reduces that to about the brightness of the amber parking lights on your vehicle.
