Looking into a SLR-106 models on 5.56/223. I remember years ago when they first came out that there were reliability issues. Some issues involved specific mags if I recall correctly. Have these issues been fixed? Any specific mags to get?
Thanks, I've been away from AKs for a long time and I'm ready to get back into em |

I have a BE series F that I've put over 7,000 rounds through over the past 18 months. With circle 10 waffles I've had 0 issues. Black polish beryl mags I have had one FTF. With a smoke 20 I had two occurences where a round got stripped from the mag during feeding so I avoid the smoke mags. Out of the total round count at least 6500 were with 3 black circle 10's. |

JVP, bro did you say that correctly or was that a typo? 7,000 rounds? Wow that was alot of green going outta that barrel. Did you notice any noticeable wear on the components or accuracy degradation? Also what was your accuracy like in the slr-106? I've got a couple and thinking about buying one more before our illustrious leader gets re-elected. I haven't been able to accuracy test mine like I want to as of yet. I've got a compm4s sitting on it but I need to wring it out more.
Thanks, Whitearrow |

The early 106s and gen 1 5.56 Circle 10 mags had issues.
The current production 106s and 5.56 Circle 10 mags are good to go. I currently run all smoke Circle 10s in my SLR106 without issue. I used to have a Beryl mag and it worked fine, but it had some wobble to it, whereas the Circle 10 mags are a perfect fit. |

I'm not exactly shooting for accuracy but when I grab my target I pattern (better word here than group) 50 rounds into 3-5 inches at 50 and 6-10 inches at 100 with the stock irons. Again with Russian Bear. A little better with rem or federal 223. xm193 and m855 is a little better as well. |

.223 Rem, and 5.56x45, no matter, right? I haven't read anything about don't shoot this, or don't shoot that, but I figured I'd check. The SLR-106 rifles are 5.56mm. A rifle than can handle hot 5.56 rounds, can always handle lighter .223 rounds. Its just doesn't work the other way around sometimes. I haev not heard of the SLR-106 rifle not liking a particular type of round, but its possible. A few years back,I had a Micro Galil (5.56) that would not reliably cycle Wolf .223, but loved Brown Bear.

| I've got an SLR-106FR and it will eat anything you load in those Circle 10 mags. I've not tried Beryl mags but I have tried the ProMags (friend uses them in his WASR-3) and I actually had good results. I just have such a negative bias towards ProMag (purchased a couple mags from them in the past and neither worked) that I refuse to buy them. I wish Tapco would get on the stick and put some out. But to get back on topic, I have fired somewhere between 1500 and 2000 rounds through mine since I bought it this summer. It was a mix of Wolf, Silver Bear, Tula, Federal XM193, Federal XM855, Remington UMC, PMC X-Tac, a few NATEC polymer and some handloads. The only problem I had was one of the NATEC cases seperated where the brass and polymer are fused. But I have had no FTF with the Circle 10's/SLR-106FR. Probably my favorite gun that I own right now. |

Thanks JVP. I know that took time. You could probably repaint worn/silver places and she would look new again. How did you get your piston face so clean? Whitearrow Scotchbrite pads. The green ones that cost $1 for 4 at the supermarket. My dad's a Garand guy and that is his trick to clean the chome section of the op rod. I also use them on the muzzle. |

Thanks JVP on the scotch brite pad tip. Do you use oil on the pad or just dry? Will the scotch brite pad harm the chrome plating on the bolt at all? Thanks, Whitearrow Dry. The chromed parts you see in my pics have been pretty much cleaned that way since day one. Figure 30 to 40 range trips/cleanings. Sometimes I use CLP to get the loose black gunk off but I've found that cleaning is easier on the chromed parts with the dry scotch brite pad. For extra difficult copper residue I use the edge of a spent brass case to scratch/break off the residue. |

Thanks JVP. is there any special number on the box/bag of scotch brite pads to look for? Or just the solid green ones? I guess what I'm saying is is there any grit number or anything? Yeah I can get all of the black carbon off except the tip/face of the chrome piston.
Thanks again, Whitearrow |

I just went to their website and I was a bit overwhelmed by the variety of product they offered. Usually I buy the cheapest green pads. Nect tome I am in the gun cave I will look and see if there is any packaging that I can narrow it down for you. |

Thanks JVP. are the pads you are using green on both sides or different colors like green on one side and white on the other? Thanks again as I'm just trying to get this straight, Whitearrow Went down to the gun cave http://www.scotch-brite.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotch-BriteBrand/Scotch-Brite/Products/Product-Catalog/?N=5941685&rt=rud |
