Ok, I was looking at picking up one of these....

http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct979.aspx

I guess I'm confused on mags though.  I'm still relatively new to the AK world, so this may be a dumb question.  Will ANY AK74 mag fit in this?  I look in the EE and other places all the time and see all of these different type of AK74 mags.  Different countries, bakelite, plastic, etc.  Will they all work in this rifle as long as it's for a 74?  If so, what type/make/nationality mag is the most affordable and works good?

only dumb question is one not asked.

answer, yes, you can use any 74 mag in this rifle. My country of choice is Bulgarian surplus mags b/c they can be had for around $10ea. They aren't always the prettiest, but they work.

And that's all I want, a mag that works.  I don't plan on entering it into any beauty contests lol.  So where is a good place to find those mags that you like, anyplace specific or you just search around?

AIM and Copes seem to usually have good prices.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it

Hey what about these polish Tantal mags you see?  Are those specifically for the Tantal?

No, they too will work in most, if not all AK-74 variants.  The Poles made them first out of steel, then later out of polymer (black).  But it appears they also purchased them from the East German's and painted their orange EG mags with black paint.  All work fine. Good luck.

I have a handful of the metal Romanian and tantal mags. I bought a bunch when I 1st moved over to the 74 being use to the 47. Metal mags gotta be better than poly right? They work great, but it's my feeling that the poly mags seat easier than the metal ones. Nothing wrong with either.

I run poly mags, steel mags and bakelite mags in my Bulgy 74.  I prefer the steel, then the bakelite, with the poly mags coming in last.  You can find poly and steel mags at apex gun parts and I think Copes has some steel ones.  I think they're  Romanian.
