I'm trying to rescue a bulgarian wood butt stock that was dirty and covered in scratches.  What was the orginal finish on thier AK-74's wood?
I'm would like to match it to this if possible.

It would look like the lower handguard in your pic give or take on the color. A little darker or lighter. My butt stock looks almost identical to your lower handguard finish wise.

What does it take to make it look that again?

I don't know what the Bulgarians used originally, probably a blend of paint, cosmoline and motor oil.  But that's not too dark a color.  I would sand it lightly to remove the scratches, clean it thoroughly, then I would apply some of the Tom's 1/3 mix.  Probably about five coats rubbed in ought to do it.  It will probably show more grain this way, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I'm a FNG on here, just bought my Bulgarian AK-47 (1973) a week ago.I too want to clean mine up.It's been in storage so long, the stain has bled off quite a bit.In your message to Young64,you mentioned Toms 1/3 mix.Where can I find that? Thanks and greetings from the shores of Lake Ontario in New York.
