I had one failure to fire this past weekend at the range. Compared to the spent cases' primers, the firing pin mark on the unfired cartridge's primer is not as deep and sharp. However, it seems sufficiently deep to ignite. I blamed the failure to fire on the cartridge, but I'd like to get a second opinion.

| If this was the only FTF you had then the primer could have been dead. I've had that happen on rounds before and not only the berdan primed ones. Just keep shooting if you have no other problems. The odd thing about the picture and it may just be me seeing something that isn't there, but the whole primer appears concave to me? |

I see how the primer looks concave, but it isn't. Maybe it's the angle and shadow that make it look that way. Like I said in the intial post, the firing pin mark on the primer doesn't seem as sharp and deep as the spent cases. This particular round was within the first couple dozen. I fired a couple hundred rounds after that with no problem. I would like to blame it on the cartrige, but the mark on the primer does not seem perfect. |
