I have a problem (maybe 2): First piece of information (maybe 1st problem): I bought an M70AB2 last Friday, took it to the range test fired it and it worked a treat. However, I frequently like to shoot from a rest and the 30 round mag is akward so I went back to the show and bought a 10 round mag. When I use it one of three things happens either a) it doesn't strip off a round, b) it strips one off but it goes to the chamber at such a steep angle that it jams, or c) it goes straight forward and jams into the bottom of the barrel/chamber. Any ideas? Second piece of information (maybe just a fluke?): The 2 30 round magazines that came with the AK seem to work flawlessly. However, I was comparing (firing that is) my friend's AK with mine (his was built out of various parts) and had the same thing happen (one of each type of misfeed) once on his (using the known good 30 round mags). Try as hard as we could we could not recreate the problem (it happens 100% of the time above with the 10 round magazine). Any ideas anybody? |

About the only difference I can see in the 10 round is in the follower. It seems to be much thinner/less stable than on the 30 rounder. If I knew how to take apart the magazine I might have a better idea of the follower (yes I'm sure there is a thread and I will get to it sooner or later). Don't know if it has anything to do with it. |
| If it is the mag and it is not a US mag you could change the follower and try it. You can get a new follower somewhere. Might have to cut one down in length. I have some laying around. If it turns out to be a US mag I would just trash it. My Chinese 5 or 10 round mags say China on the baseplate. If you can get more 20 or 30 round mags I would try them to rule out an issue with the rifle. |
| I have the same problem with my WASR 10. The clips it came with were 30 rounders and it usually has problems with 1 to 2 feed issues ever 30 rounds same steep angle your talking about, I bought 2 newer mags chinese ones and it is worse with them mags and they seem to be in really good shape. Not really sure how to work thu this problem. any help would be apprecated. When it happens the round is at about a 45 angle and it seems to be still sitting in the clip like it isnt picking up the round fully. |
Look on the baseplate, you see a small button. Push that in with a round or pen or even the punch in you cleaning kit. While pushing this in, slide the plate off and be prepared to be nailed with an 18 foot spring. Pull the spring and follower out and take a look. Sometimes you have to play with the follower to get it out, rock it from side to side while pulling. |
