| I have a Hesse Model 47 (flame on) that has a very slight amount of barrel play at the trunion. You can move the barrel forward, backward, up, down, left and right approximately 1/2mm. Since this is my bump rifle I'm not concerned about accuracy but my big concern is safety. Should I rush it to the nearest AK emergency room or bump til the cows come home? |
| Are you saying that you can move the barrel in the trunnion. If so I would be concerned. If the barrel is moving it will change your headspace constantly. Sometimes to tight maybe and sometimes to much. I would have it fixed before I would do anymore firing. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck |

Yes, I can move the barrel in the trunnion. Can the changing headspace cause it to fire out of battery? Looks like a trip to the gunsmith is in order. Thanks for the advise. |

Did you buy it new? I'd definately be contacting the source you bought it from! Being a Hesse, lets start with the basics. 1. Is there even a barrel pin in it? 2. Is the headspace correct in any position? 3. Is it an all matching numbers rifle? 4. Are you sure it isnt the trunnion moving in the receiver? Ive had this problem before, rivets arent tight enough. Check the rivets, see if there are any gaps between the receiver and the rivet head. There was a video on here yesterday of a sar1 or wasr blowing a round. It wasnt pretty, could hurt your eyes or blind you. Dont risk it. |

Curious, one of their converted Saigas or?? Its been put aside until its fixed and luckily I have another AK and a Bushy M4 to enjoy in the meantime. I don't know enough about its history (or AK's for that matter) to know whether or not its one of their converted Saigas. However, after owning it for over a year now I've learned that its seen some rough times. Luckily I got it cheap and thanks to this board I've learned a lot. I appreciate the advise. |

I haven't seen the video but I've seen weapons that have blown a round and I don't want to go there. I'm retiring it until its repaired. Thanks for your input. |

Describing the stampings on the left side under the rear sight may help. Maybe a triangle around an arrow, other? |

Like they said above...The trunion maybe cracked,74 barrel on a 47 trunion is possable. There should be absolutly no movement in the trunion what so ever. Ak's are known for there loose tolerences in the breech for headspace. But you may have just been lucky. That is one of the most critical areas of the weapon that should never be over looked. If you value your limbs or your life for that matter.......Do NOT fire it again without a gunsmith looking it over. -Shadow- |
