I just finished installing the new G2 FCGs from the Tapco Group Buy (thx!) in my SAR-2s. No problem, installation was a breeze and the trigger pulls are now amazing! I also installed Red Star Arms FCG retainer plates, again no problems. My son's SAR-2 needs nothing else, everything works fine. My SAR-2, on the other hand, has an interesting problem where how the problem came to be is perhaps more puzzling than trying to find a solution. Read on... Sometimes when you install a new FCG you need a touch of filing to get the safety bar to properly engage the FCG w/o the safety bar actually hitting the FCG. Well, I tried the safety on my SAR-2 and it hits the FCG so a little modification is in order here, no big deal. Just remove the parts and get to work, right? Not this time... I can't remove the FCG w/o removing the pivot pins first. I can't remove the pivot pins w/o removing the RSA retainer plate first. I can't remove the RSA retainer plate w/o removing the safety first. I can't remove the safety because it's trapped behind the FCG in the "off" position and I can't rotate it up to be removed! Now, if you think about it, how could I have assembled the rifle and reinstalled the safety then moved the safety to the "off" (trapped) position if the safety bar is hitting the FCG??? I can see the area that needs to be worked on but the clearance is so small I can't get my Dremel in there and trying to do it by hand w/a very small file is going to take a *long* time! Any helpful suggestions??? TIA!... Tomac |
Thanks, that did the trick! (I can't believe I've been using AKs since the late 80's and I didn't know you could rotate the safety 360 degrees like that!...) Tomac |
