| Is the gas pison/rod the correct length? Is it a new rod or did it come in the parts set? I think it can be adjusted...and if I remember correctly, it shouldn't be threaded all the way into the carrier. It's been a few years since I built mine...but I'm sure the rod has to be out a few turns. |

I think Hawcer is right. The rod may be in too deep, thus blocking off the gas port. That seems to be the only possible answer given the situation. I'd look up how/if you can adjust the rod length, or get a new carrier that fits. could we get a picture of where the gas port is in the chamber? I'm wondering if there are any scuff or wear marks that might help us figure out if the piston is going in to far. |

ok i have a polish ak i built on a flat and used a yugo barrel.bolt and carrie smooth as butter you can cycle it by hand feed and ejects fine. but when fired single shot wont cycle gas port is clear and has good flow any help please thanks http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq148/longpole1234/ak005.jpg http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq148/longpole1234/ak006.jpg http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq148/longpole1234/ak007.jpg http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq148/longpole1234/ak009.jpg Who built it? Just curious as to why there are multiple handguard retainer pin grooves cut into the barrel. Also, the barrel profile does not appear to be from a Polish rifle. |

| I last year built two aks.. One cycled fine and the other was a single fire bolt action.. Why because I didn't check and line up the gas hole. Had enough gas. To start to move the piston but not enough to fully cycle.. With Curtis gas drill bit it took care of the problem..since then I always check my builds with the back side of the drill bit if I don't see it come into the bore I will insert a wod dowel in the bore then use my gas drill bit to open up the hole or taper the one there for a smoother transion. You didn't state if you have checked this..Another build had the piston a little to tight in the gass block and would get stuck so a simple polishing of the bore and piston everything worked fine.. |
