i recently bought a Romanian SAR 1 from someone on another website and upon inspection i noticed the chamber of this rifle
had a feed ramp cut in it.

i have a Bulgarian SLR95 and there is nothing like this on the chamber face. my question is:

is this safe? has too much material been removed from the barrel?

is this an OEM operation in the assembly of this rifle?

i hand cycled a few rounds, pulling the bolt back fully and letting it slam home and chambering a round. i had no issues with them hitting the bottom of the chamber, blunting of tips or back- seating the projectiles.

i have not had a chance to fire this thing yet as i have limited range accessibility.

here is the best pic of this i could get:

it doesn't look too deep. i have had some that came w/ a ramp and some that didn't. i personally added a ramp to my aes10-b so it would feed soft point rounds. if it is not crazy deep it is perfectly fine.

thanks. i am thinking about getting some go/nogo gauges to check it. i sure hope it's not too deep, that would negate an otherwise good deal that i got.

E.T.A––- more pics

and for an unmodified reference, a pic of the chamber on my SLR 95:

Go -No go gauges won't tell you anything about whether that ramp is too deep.
Secure the rifle to something and fire off several cartridges from 20-25 feet away.
Examine the fired cases for evidence that the chamber isn't supporting the case. If it's not the case will be bulged.

That cut looks absolutely normal.  While not all AK barrels will have this feature, the one's that do, will feed more reliably across a wider range of magazines and ammo.  It's particularly helpful with the blunt tip, hollow point 7.62x39 ammo that's so common now.

I guess that depends on one's definition of "normal".
That cut was not placed there by the Romanians who built the rifle. It was added by someone who owned a Dremel.
If one believes that it's "normal" to grind on gun barrels then I guess it's "normal".
If one believes that people who own Dremels have done more to disarm America than Nancy Pelosi, then it's not "normal" and the OP is well advised that it's better to be safe than to be sorry.
